Referencing optimization: ranking

It's quite difficult to optimize your referencing in directories but I do have one handy hint. Just like in traditional directories, the higher up the alphabet your website name is, the more chance you (or your website) stand of being listed first.

Unlike directories, there are many techniques which can be used to optimize your referencing with search engines. (SEO or Search Engine Optimization). There are many website on internet which will give you tips for each search engine but let's be frank about this - unless you wish to improve your general knowledge, these tips are useless. It doesn't matter what indexing techniques are used by which search engine, take a look at your website and put ALL of the following advice into practice:

Text : your website's pages need to contain keywords which will enable internet users to find your website. When you talk about a subject, try (without it seeming ridiculous), to use a maximum number of words concerning your subject matter. For example if you're talking about cars then try to use the words car, automobile, vehicle...

Title : your html page contains a part called title in the head section. It's really important to use this and to make sure you include keywords that relate to the subject you are dealing with.

Meta : the head section of your html page contains meta tags. It is important to use these. A special section is dedicated to this subject: here.

Repetition : try whenever possible to use important words in the text, the titles, the descriptions and the keywords. (see the Meta section)

Popularity : popularity is quite a recent concept and there is a special page for this subject: here

Remember that developing your website relating to personal and original subjects will definitely enable you to increase the number of visitors to your website without having to worry about super-optimized referencing.
